ApoE-2 Appears to Protect Against Alzheimer’s

Researchers in the “90+” study find that one form of the so-called Alzheimer’s gene, ApoE-2, actually appears to protect the “oldest old” against the disease. Learn more.


Lead researcher Dr. Claudia Kawas shares a surprising finding of the longitudinal, ongoing 90+ study of people ages 90 and older at Laguna Hills Village in southern California. Dr. Kawas, who is the Al and Trish Nichols Chair in Clinical Neuroscience and Professor Neurology and Neurobiology and Behavior at the University of California in Irvine, says one form of the Alzheimer’s gene, ApoE-2, appears to actually protect the “oldest old” against the disease.
